Freya Anderson

Born: 4th March 2001

Freya Anderson is the 2018 European Junior Champion in the 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle. After building her International Swimming Profile from an early age, Freya won her debut British title in 2017, at the age of 16 years old, and secured herself a first senior call-up to the British Swimming team. This led to a European Championships Gold on the British mixed relay team alongside James Guy, Adam Peaty and Georgia Davis.

Having grown up in Merseyside, Freya is now attending Ellesmere College in Shropshire studying towards her A-Level Qualifications. Part of renowned swimming club, the Ellesmere Titans, Freya credits her team with making swimming even more fun and for keeping her down to earth. After suffering a back injury in 2017, which led to a gruelling 18-month recovery, Freya’s team lifted her up and supported her through.

The best advice Freya has received is from her Swim Coach, who advised her “to swim fast you have to be able to swim happy.” Freya finds a big part of swimming happy is being alongside her teammates.

Keen on music, Eminem and Kanye West are Freya’s current ‘go to’ for getting pumped before a race.

When Freya was 8 years old, her school class created posters on people they admired. Freya chose Rebecca Adlington, whose success in the Beijing Olympics Freya looked up to as a young swimmer. At 18 years old, Freya is now focused towards her own Olympic journey, with the chance to compete in Tokyo 2020 on the horizon.
