Backstroke champion Ryan Murphy was born in Florida and broke 26 National age group records as a junior swimmer. When he was just 8-years-old, the American wrote that he wanted ‘to be an Olympian’ and ‘break world records’ in swimming. In his debut Olympics games in Rio 2016, he did just that, becoming Olympic champion in the 100m and 200m backstroke whilst breaking the 100m backstroke World Record in his leg of the 4 x 100m Medley Relay, in which he also took gold.
