Lauren Boyle (NZL) won the gold medal in the Women’s 400m Freestyle, adding to the silver medal from the 800m event and becoming New Zealand’s first ever champion over the distance at a Commonwealth Games. Bronte Barratt (AUS) picked up the bronze medal as she did in the 200m Freestyle event, here in Glasgow.
Cameron McEvoy (AUS) won his third individual silver of the week in the Men’s 50m Freestyle. This gives him a total of five medals over the past 6 days, adding to the silver medals won in both the 100m and 200m Freestyle, plus gold medals in both Freestyle Relay events.
200m Freestyle champion Thomas Fraser-Holmes (AUS) missed a medal in the 200m Individual Medley by just 0.01 seconds to finish fourth.
In an outstanding race, Ryan Cochrane (CAN) added the 1500m Freestyle title to the 400m Freestyle he won earlier in the week, repeating the double he won four years ago in Delhi. Mack Horton (AUS) took the silver medal, making up for a fourth place finish in the 400m event.
Emma McKeon picked up her sixth medal of the week by producing a superb butterfly leg in the Women’s 4x100m Medley Relay as Australia came from behind to win gold. South Africa, led off by Karin Prinsloo, finished 5th. In the Men’s 4x100m Medley Relay, Christian Sprenger (AUS) helped Australia win the silver medal, whilst Leith Shankland anchored South Africa to a bronze medal.
