Born in Herlev, Denmark, freestyle swimmer Pernille Blume won her first major individual event medal in 2016, scooping gold at the Rio Olympic Games in the 50m freestyle to give Denmark its first Olympic Gold medal since 1948. Pernille’s previous best was in the team relays of the 2014 World Short Course Championships, where she and her team took gold in the 4 x 100 medley and gold in the 4x 50m free relay, setting a new world record time.
