SPEEDO OLYMPIANS SWIM WITH LOCAL SCHOOL CHILDREN
Speedo sponsored athletes took to the pool today with children from Beijing. 16 children aged from 5 to 8 years old picked up swimming tips from Olympians and USA athletes, Gary Hall-Junior and Ben Wildman-Tobriner and five time World Champion swimmer James Hickman (GBR).
Speedo has always been associated with grass roots swimming and arranged the event to highlight the growing popularity of the sport and to encourage youngsters to be more active.
Gary Hall Jr. three-time Olympian and five-time Olympic gold medalist showed the children his swimming technique in the pool. Gary is particularly passionate about promoting a fit and healthy lifestyle to children in order to prevent the onset of diabetes as he was diagnosed with the condition in 1999.
When we asked Ben what it was like conducting a class with children of different nationalities, who understood different languages , he said; “When you’re in the water there’s no language barrier, it’s as if the language of swimming is universal.”
The children were keen to pose with the swimmers following the class, they lined up along the poolside to have their photographs taken with their swimming super heroes.
SPEEDO ATHLETES MAKE EXCLUSIVE APPEARANCE AT NEW YANSHA MALL
Speedo swimmers and Olympians Hugues Dubosq (FRA), Alain Bernard (FRA), Fred Bousquet (FRA), Margaret Hoelzer (USA), Garret Webber-Gale (USA), Kara Lynn Joyc (USA) and Austria’s Mirna Jukic (AUT) all made an exclusive appearance today at the Speedo store in New Yansha Mall, Beijing.
The elite athletes were introduced on stage in the sprawling mall to shoppers who watched as their hand prints were immortalized in casts that are set to grace the walls of the New Yansha Mall and other Speedo stores across China.
With a throng of spectators gathering at the window, the group then headed to the Speedo store for a shopping spree. The girls plumped for candy coloured t-shirts and bikinis while the boys selected Speedo board shorts and hoodies.
Mirna said, “I love the bikinis and t-shirts, it’s all so cute. I’m well stocked for in and out of the pool now!”
The doors opened for the expectant shoppers who then had the opportunity to meet the team face to face and collect autographs from the swimming stars.

OPEN SWIMMING
The swimming at the Water Cube in Beijing may have come to an end, but for the first time in the Olympic programme Open Water swimming has been featured.??In Beijing the open water swimming is taking place on the Shunyi Rowing-Canoeing Park.??
Team GB swimmers Keri-Anne Payne (1:59.29.2) and Cassie Patten (1:59.31) picked up silver and bronze medals, respectively, after an exciting finish in the Women’s 10km.
Payne and Patten, led from the start, but were beaten to the line and the gold with less than 50m to go by Larisa Ilchenko from Russia in a time of 1:59.27.7.
BEACH VOLLEYBALL
Speedo athletes and USA’s Kerri Walsh and Misty won their 107th consecutive match against Brazil, advancing them to the Gold Medal match scheduled for Thursday. They will face the China team of Tian Jia and Wang Jie tomorrow morning. Also dominating on the beach, Phil Dalhausser (USA) easily won his semi-finals match today, which also advances him to the Gold Medal round scheduled for Friday.
After a close call against the Australians, the USA Women’s Water Polo team will play for Gold against the Netherlands on Wednesday, while the USA Men’s Water Polo team has advanced to semi-finals for a match against either Serbia or Spain on Friday.
