Began swimming at the age of 5 because her mother was afraid of the water and wanted her daughter to learn early. She holds both American and Canadian dual citizenship. In 2015, she won the 2015 NCAA Swimmer of the Year award. She went to University of California Berkeley where she majored in Psychology. During the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, she became the most decorated female of all time at world championships with a total of 11 Gold Medals.
